Buying Lithium Ion Battery? Get the insights of lithium battery pros and cons
Everybody wants a perfect batter for their bike and cars that don’t need to be charged or maintained. Most of the bikes, cars are increasingly using lithium-ion batteries. Compared to lead-acid batteries, lithium-ion batteries are way more powerful than lead-acid batteries and 1/3 in terms of weight for the same capacity of lead-acid batteries. These batteries perform well in all-weather compared to lead-acid batteries. However, there is a downside associated with a lithium-ion battery which makes it dangerous if the temperature rises above specific degrees and that would be dangerous to the extent that could result in a major incidents or accidents.
The drawback of lithium-ion cells is its high thermal runaway, the temperature rises quickly in event of a short circuit or heavy resistance. We’ll get to the potential causes of the thermal runway, but what’s significant is knowing that the temperature rises to extremely dangerous levels that the battery could explode and catch fire. In case of cars, you may have tiny fire extinguishers to suppress the fire. However, any such occurrence in motorcycles is way more dangerous. Before you buy a lithium-ion battery for your bike, be sure to know the requirements of your bike and safety concerns.
Don’t get confused enough that you get to abandon buying the lithium-ion battery, but be mindful of several considerations. Since most of the bike batteries we used are barely checked, it is recommended to keep an eye on your bike’s battery. A thermal runaway can be caused by an internal as well as an external short circuit. Therefore, if you’re buying lithium-ion batteries just because you have heard mixed reviews, don’t take an immediate decision and choose the right battery for your bike.
