Best Battery for Bike? Lithium vs Lead Acid Battery

Bikes often get frozen or take time to start, cold start often delays starting. However, Starting bike draws considerable current and to pick up the engine, your bike battery plays important role. Therefore, having a battery takes more than money to buy. You may find a lot of batteries in aftermarket, and each of the battery has several advantages and disadvantages. Similarly, lead acid battery has taken over lithium ion batteries in bikes. Though lithium battery is light in weight and contains many advantages such as, low discharge rate, having no chemicals or acid. Whereas, lead acid battery is known for its size and other aspects. Unlike lithium battery, that doesn’t require refill, lead acid battery though it performs better in high and low temperature, require refilling of electrolyte.

Lithium ion battery is compatible with lead acid charger as well, and comparatively not much heavier in weight. However, lead acid battery is heavier due to its own plates and the weight of electrolyte. Discharge rate of lead acid battery is better compared to lithium battery. Some batteries don’t perform well in hot or cold temperatures, but lead acid battery has better performance again all weather. Just like electric car batteries, E bike widely use lithium batteries. However, your performance expectations for battery depends on factors such as, its make, material, type and capacity.
